The 20 November saw some of our researchers supporting the Oadby Celebrates! event at Beauchamp College. We took along our giant map of Oadby in 1914 and some of our boards from past exhibitions and were again able to meet up with some descendants of the First World War casualties. Members of our Facebook forum were also there to support and an excellent talk was delivered by Bill Davice about the development of Oadby and particularly his family’s part in its history. Bill is related to many of the old Oadby families whose members were themselves able to share their own stories. Chris Swan had scoured the Beauchamp archives and found some wonderful material ranging from school magazines to year books and an early 20th century school register from the Ragged School. Lots of fun spotting ourselves and relatives in old school photos!
Prior to the event we had worked with Beauchamp College to put together a Then and Now collection of photos of the village which were displayed on some huge posters created by the Beauchamp art and reprographics department.
